How do I join the GHSRA?

When can I join the GHSRA?

Thanks for your interest in the GHSRA. There is no deadline to join. We have students joining through out the year. Our season starts when school starts (September) and finishes up with our State Finals (June). You can join at any time. The students compete for points in each event. The top 20 contestants in each event are invited to compete at the State Finals in Perry, GA. Then the top 4 in each event go to the National High School Finals Rodeo, this year it is in Gillette, WY. This is the Worlds largest rodeo. Buckles, plaques, scholarships and other items are awarded at the State Finals.

If I am from another state, can I join the GHSRA?

A contestant who wishes to rodeo in another State/Province, may rodeo in another State/Province with written approval from the two involved State/Province Associations, both National Directors and NHSRA.

The student will call their State Secretary and tell her/him that they wish to rodeo with the GHSRA. Then the student will fill out a Membership form and send it to the GHSRA State Secretary.

The State Secretary, from which the student resides in, will fill out a Transfer form and send it to their National Director.  If approved, the National Director will sign it and then sends it on to the National Director from which the student wishes to join. That Director will sign it and then send the Transfer form to the NHSRA.

How do I get my school involved with the GHSRA?

The GHSRA is not associated with any school systems. The GHSRA provides rodeo events for students in Georgia's high schools. Outside the state of Georgia, students can compete in the GHSRA, but they must contact their state's national director to receive permission. Then the state secretaries will make the appropriate arrangements.

How do I get involved with the sport of rodeo at an early age?

Click on "Jr Association" in the left column of this site. Georgia is fortunate to have four Junior rodeo associations available to our youth. Though many of the junior rodeo contestants move up to the GHSRA, upon entering high school, the GHSRA is not associated or involved with the junior rodeo associations. We have only listed contact information on our web site to help those interested in finding them. Please give them a call and they gladly answer any questions that you may have.

How are All-Around points earned?

A Cowboy or Cowgirl will receive All-Around points by competing in two or more events per rodeo. The contestant does not have to receive points in all events entered, but those points earned in any event will be compiled to their All-Around points.

All-Around Points Earned

Example 1: A Cowgirl receives All-Around points by competing in Barrel Racing and Pole Bending.

Example 2: A Cowboy receives All-Around points by competing in Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding and Bull Riding.

All-Around Points Not Earned

Example 3: A Cowgirl only enters in Breakaway roping.

Example 4: A Cowboy calls-in to compete in Tie-down Calf Roping and Team Roping. At the rodeo his Team Roping partner does not show up. He only competes in Tie-down Calf Roping and Draws-Out or is Called-Out in Team Roping.
