The Georgia Junior High School Rodeo Association is a state-wide organization of students, grades 6 through 8 who are under the age of 16, who participate in rodeos held throughout the state. GJHSRA is a founding member of the National High School Rodeo Associations’ Junior High Division, created in 2005, and is comprised of 41 States, 5 Canadian Provinces and Australia.

The Junior High division of NHSRA was created with the intent to prepare junior high students for competition in the high school ranks. As a result, more high school underclassmen are qualifying for (and winning) events at the national level than ever before! The GJHSRA holds qualifying rodeos during the season from late August to May and finishes up with a State Finals rodeo held in Perry, Georgia. The top 4 cowboys/cowgirls in each event at the state level qualify to compete at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in June.
Cowboys events include Tie-Down Calf Roping or Breakaway Roping, Goat Tying, Chute Dogging, Team Roping, Ribbon Roping, and Bull Riding. Cowgirls events include Breakaway Roping, Goat Tying, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Team Roping and Ribbon Roping. NHSRA Rules and by-laws will apply. All event rules are covered in NHSRA rule book.  The cowboy or cowgirl, and the animals used in rodeo, compete against themselves and the clock as much as they compete against each other.
Georgia Junior High School Rodeo is a self-supporting, non-profit organization. We require our members to conduct themselves in an exemplary manner, to abide by a strict dress code when competing, and to "play by the rules". We also require them to maintain their grades at the same level it takes to play school sports in their respective schools. Education is of paramount importance to this organization and is a requirement to compete and participate.
In summary, the GJHSRA provides a unique opportunity for Georgia youth to participate in one of the most rewarding sports experiences available anywhere and you don't have to be born in the saddle to get involved.
